Prayer Wheel
I knew immediately this was a symbol of life's areas
of investigation from the interior to the exterior,
but it took painting it to realize what everything
meant. The bottom right hand corner represents the
energy of the subconscious self, that area of one's
inner being that is in touch with the hidden contents
of the psyche,
such as, memories and dreams. This is also the area
of the soul which is connected to the greater whole-the
collective unconscious and the river of life. The soul
area is walled off you see, it takes wanting to gain
access.
We have to ask to enter.
Then we have the plains
of the mysterious borderland: the connective link between
the subconscious and the conscious mind, big Wyoming
fields ready to be plowed and seeded, the world of
the imagination, the experiences of meditation. The
sparks of insight erupt here first. It is only by cultivating
the fields of this borderland that we make pathways,
and emotional waterways which connect the soul realm
to conscious awareness.
Tending the Soul.
When our
fields are well tended and bountiful, we sense a deep
connection to man, nature and ultimately God-the source.
Around the edge of the wheel are symbols of growth
and the outer
manifestations of life.
There are also prayer flags, symbols of the necessity
of ritual to take us into the plains of the borderland.
Symbols of physical reality and symbols of spirit
give us energy through love. Behind the wheel play
the musical winds of heaven. This area beyond the
wheel is similar to the inner corner except that
it represents the heart and soul which have become
illuminated- that which we now have to give fully
to others.
